Overview

Cognitive Multisensory Rehabilitation (CMR) is a sensorimotor intervention developed by Professor Perfetti for stroke motor rehabilitation. It targets somatosensory, multisensory, and cognitive functions through structured sensory discrimination exercises.

CMR emphasizes the perception and integration of different sensory modalities (e.g., somatosensory, visual) and body parts (e.g., shoulder and hand) to enable purposeful, accurate, and effective movement. By fostering a stronger relationship between body and environment, CMR helps restore functional ability that has been impaired or lost.

Each CMR task activates cognitive processes such as perception, attention, body representation, and memory. Patients are guided to pay attention to their body, comprehend and perceive it, and develop an understanding of its movements, supporting the mind–body connection in recovery.

In this four and a half hour on-demand course, participants will gain a foundational understanding of CMR and its application in neurological rehabilitation, with a focus on practical CMR tasks.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the basic principles of Cognitive Multisensory Rehabilitation and its application in motor recovery for neurological rehabilitation.

  2. Identify the structure and components of CMR tasks.

Course Outline

In this course, you will learn

  • Action and cognitive processing in CMR for neurological conditions.

  • The role of CMR in assessment, treatment, and evaluation of patients with neurological conditions.

  • CMR tasks for neurological rehabilitation: structure, characteristics, and instruments

You can also find a detailed outline of the course materials, by going to the Course materials section. A free preview has been included.
